Summer Beauty Reviews

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

I decided that today I'm taking it back to my roots as a beauty blogger. (If you haven't been around long enough to remember that point in time..you should probably be glad.) Even though I don't seem to post about makeup as much as I used to, I'm still a huge beauty junkie. Honestly, it's probably a bad thing at this point. I've been cleaning out my room and I have WAY too much makeup. I need an intervention.

Anyways.

In the past couple of months I've acquired quite a few new products, and I figured I'd do a post reviewing them!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Rimmel London Kate Sculpting Kit

For my spring show, we had to have a contour/highlight kit. Being the procrastinator that I am, I picked this up about a week before the show at a sketchy Walmart at like, 9:00 at night because I didn't have any other time to go. That was fun. I LOVE the highlight and blush in this, although I'm not a huge fan of the contour color. I think it's too warm for my skin tone, and it's hard to contour with powder, in my opinion. You really need cream. But I adore the highlight and blush, I still use them daily!

Revlon Liquid Colorstay Skinny Eyeliner

I believe that this was another thing that I picked up for a show, although I think I got this one for Aladdin, the first show. Guys, I LOVE this eyeliner so much. Liquid eyeliner definitely isn't my strong point, but this is one of the best eyeliners I've ever used. The tip is super skinny, which makes it easier to be super precise. Also, for such a tiny bottle, you get a lot out of it- I still haven't run out, and I use it almost every day. LOVE.

Covergirl Full Lash Bloom Mascara

I actually can't remember when I got this mascara, I think I had just run out, so I picked this up. Definitely not my favorite mascara. It's not bad, just not one that I would pick again.

ELF Duo Eyeshadow

This was actually an eyeshadow that I received for Christmas from my grandma. Lately, I've gotten SUPER obsessed with it. It's such a nice color combination, and I really like how it goes on. My only note would be that the lighter of the two colors can occasionally be a bit splotchy if you don't blend it well. Otherwise, I love this eyeshadow!

Wet n' Wild Coloricon Brow Pencil

Yet another product from a show! Being a blonde, it's never a bad idea to have a brow pencil on hand, and I really like this one a lot. It's a good color, light enough so as to look natural but pigmented enough to do its job.

Aussie Hair Insurance

I picked up this heat protectant spray a while back, and whenever I actually remember, I use it before I style my hair with heat. I'm not really sure how to know if it's working or not, but my hair hasn't fried off yet, so I'm assuming that it is. Plus, it smells really good, so sometimes I just spray it around my room purely for the scent!

Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Straightening Mist

I'm pretty sure that I've squealed about this before, but I'm going to do it again. I LOVE THIS STUFF. It really does help to make my hair straighter, and it smells AMAZING. Like, I'd wear it as a perfume. Also, if you have a bunch of frizz, you can spray a ton of this on the frizzy areas and brush it out, AND THE FRIZZ IS GONE. Literally, miracle product.

Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama

Honestly, I'm only reviewing this as a warning to you all. Otherwise, I wouldn't even bother. DO NOT BUY THIS MASCARA. It's legitimately the worst mascara I've ever tried. I received it in a beauty box, and I really hate it. It just clumps your lashes together. Definitely don't waste your money on this.

NSPA Exotically Creamy Coconut Rich Body Butter

This is another beauty box product, but I actually liked this one. It's a super creamy, soft body butter. I love it. The only thing is that sometimes coconut gives me a headache, so I can't wear it very often. I wish that it was vanilla or even scentless. Otherwise, I love it!

Prom!!!

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

One of my most-requested posts lately has been...Prom! I really hope that this post doesn't completely bore y'all, I kind of just started to ramble. But, here we have it, the long awaited prom post!

Before I start, let me just clear something up really quickly- I'm not a senior, this wasn't my senior prom. Where I live, there are a ton of homeschoolers, and so all of the co-ops join up and do a homeschool prom, which is available for anyone in high school. I'm actually only a sophomore. (Have I ever told y'all that before? I don't think I have. Do I seem like a sophomore?) Haha, anyways, thought I'd throw that disclaimer out there.

I guess the beginning of prom would be when a bunch of friends and I went to go get our nails done! I'd never gotten a manicure before, and I really loved it. It's been three weeks since I went, and I still have them! (Well, minus one, but it just fell off this morning.) They've grown out a lot, but I still love them. I'll warn you though, it leaves your nails absolutely dead once it comes off. My nail is super roughed up and short now. Mine tend to grow really fast though, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal. I still totally recommend it!

Next up was the process of deciding hair and makeup. I spent so much time on Pinterest, oh my gosh. I apologize to all of my followers, I totally spammed you all haha. I ended up deciding on a makeup look using my Naked 3 palette- I love that thing so much oh my word. And then I found a hair idea on Pinterest that I based my hair off of. Not going to lie, this isn't exactly how my hair turned out, but I'm still happy with the end look.

This is how my hair turned out when I tried it the day before prom. (Yes I practiced. I'm an easily stressed person, okay?) You'll get to see the day-of hair in a minute. ; )

I also had to pick out jewelry. The hair clip is one that I borrowed from my mom, and the earrings were from my grandma. : )

So now, the actual day of prom. That morning I had a dance rehearsal from 9-11:30, so I had to get up and go to that. Once I got home, I showered and ate lunch, but before I knew it, it was time for hair and makeup! I started off with hair, because, let's face it, hair's a lot less stressful. Makeup always stresses me out. So I did my hair, and then started the process of freaking out while doing my makeup. I love doing eyeshadow, but I never seem to put enough on because I'm typically really light with my makeup. Naturally, you need more for prom, so for the past two years it's basically been me sitting there trying to do my eyes while my mom keeps telling me that I need more eyeshadow. It's honestly hilarious.

Once I was basically ready, I threw a bunch of my stuff in a big bag, grabbed my dress and my shoes, and got in the car to go to a friend's house. About seven of my friends and I had agreed to all meet up at a friend's house to finish getting ready, get dressed, and take a million photos. It was so much fun, it was absolutely hilarious. We were all super hyped up and screaming half of the time. It's a miracle that A: No one lost their hearing, B: None of the moms went crazy and shot us, and C: I didn't lose my voice. Pretty sure our director would have killed us if we'd all lost our voices, haha.

I figured y'all would want to see some photos of the finished look. I have about a million, but I'm only including a couple because most of them include my friends and they might not want to end up plastered all over my blog haha. I'll tell you right now though, they were all absolutely stunning. I have such gorgeous friends!

So anyways, we finished getting ready, binge ate a ton of candy, and took more photos than our memory cards knew what to do with. Then it was time to head to prom! Two of the girls had dates, so they were picked up, but the rest of us single ladies all headed to prom in style- in a limo! One girl's dad arranged it, and it was honestly the most fun thing ever. We were blasting music and just being generally hyper. There was a bottle of sparkling cider, so we drank that and took a lot of photos that honestly look like we had wine. Pretty sure some people would freak out if they saw those, but it was only cider, I swear!

Once we arrived at the prom venue, we took even more photos (what can I say- it's what we do!), and then headed inside. The theme was Shanghi, which wasn't exactly my top choice, but it wasn't horrible. They decorated pretty nicely.

Table Setting
Y'all know that I live in the South, and generally I'm in a pretty conservative environment. I mean, let's be real. I'm in the South. I'm homeschooled. I'm a Christian. And it's great, it's been a great way to grow up. But sometimes, I'm not going to lie- people take it a bit overboard.

As you can see above, there are some lovely fortune cookies. So, naturally, my friends and I were all like, "Oh, cool! Let's open them and see what our fortunes are!" Here's mine-

Yep. A Bible verse. Every single fortune cookie had a Bible verse inside. XD We were all absolutely cracking up. My friend's cookie 'fortune' was "Without God, it is utterly impossible. But with God everything is possible." And she goes, "Hey, does this mean it's possible for me to get a date?!"

So, welcome to homeschool prom.

Our prom serves food, so we ate dinner, and then it was time for the fun- dancing! I don't remember a lot of it, it's all a giant happy blur. We danced for hours, it was great. They played the typical dances like Cupid Shuffle, Cha-Cha Slide, Footloose, etc, and then they played popular music as well, and everyone just jammed out. My group made a bunch of giant dance circles, and guys would run in the middle and do tons of tricks, backflips, etc. The energy was so high, and it was just all so much fun.

In between dances, there was a photobooth, so my friends and I would run in there and take tons of photos. I'm planning to hang those strips up on my wall- I'm keeping them forever.

Then it was more dancing, more craziness. The music blared, and we were all exhausted but it was so much fun. At one point there was a conga line, and every year there's a contest to see which of the guys has the craziest socks (it's a tradition, don't ask xD ), so we did those. There was cake, and laughter, and so many fun memories.

The night wound down around ten-thirty, and one of my friends and I headed back to my house. We crashed in the living room, eating way too many nachos and watching Anastasia, because we are mature teenagers who know how to rock a prom afterparty.

- - - - -

So, in a nutshell, that was prom! It was such a blast, and if you're on the fence as to whether to go to prom in the future, GO. Get a group together and have a ball.

- - - - -

Lately I've been having the absolute worst case of writer's block ever. I just can't seem to come up with good topics to blog about! SO, I'm turning to you all. Is there any type of post you'd be interested in? I've also considered doing a Q&A, although I'm not quite cool enough to do a video like Abbie, Olivia, and Rachel did ; ) (I'm so awkward on camera, guys. It's bad.) But I've thought of doing a Q&A blog post, would anyone be interested in that? Let me know in the comments!

January/February Favorites!

Saturday, March 12, 2016

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!!! Aren't favorites posts fun? I love them. The last few months I haven't managed to get one up, though, so I'm making this lovely gigantic one with January AND February favorites.

Creating this post may have partially involved repeatedly asking my mom and my sisters, "What have I been obsessed with lately????" Because I have a terrible memory and literally can't even remember my own life. Go me.

Beauty:

I needed to try a new foundation, and ended up liking the Maybelline Fit Me in Porcelain. I had to switch because the Ivory TruBlend was too dark...I'm so pale, guys. It's terrible. Sometimes I feel like Porcelain doesn't even match. I really need to get a tan this summer. It's bad.

I got this eyeshadow trio in a Target beauty box, and I really like it! I'd never tried anything by Pacifica, but I love the quality. It has nice pigmentation, and it doesn't crease, either. Plus, THE PACKAGING IS SO PRETTYYYYY. Gah. Love.

I'd been wanting to try EOS in stick form for forever. I got the vanilla one for Christmas, and the mint for Valentine's Day, and I love them both. The consistency is great, and it's so much easier than the big sphere that's the typical EOS shape.

This Bed Head curling wand was a Christmas present, and since then I haven't used my old curling wand once. It gives your hair these absolutely GORGEOUS, natural curls, and they really hold, too. Plus, the glove that comes with it works wonderfully. Can't recommend this wand enough.

Books:

These are basically books & journals all wrapped up into one and I'm obsessed. I'm also quite proud because I've kept up with them quite well. And if you know me, I'm terrible at keeping up with ANYTHING.

I read The Old Man and the Sea for school, and I really enjoyed it. Well, I enjoyed reading it the first time, anyways. Then I had to write this essay on the symbolism within the book and started to lose my mind. But the book itself was good!

Randomness:

The obsession is hardcore, guys. I'm almost finished with season 1- it's so great!

One of my friends managed to get almost the entire high school at our co-op obsessed with Color Switch. Myself included. It's sooo addicting. I've kind of gotten sick of it now, but it was a definite obsession for a while.

I've absolutely loved watching this continuation to Full House. It's so cute, and since I grew up on Full House, seeing everyone grow up has been super fun.

It's taking over my life, guys. I'm involved with helping with a production of the show coming up soon, and I could not be more excited. It seems like lately all I ever am thinking about is Aladdin!

Music:

SURPRISE! The musical that has taken over my life. I literally cannot say enough good things about this show and its brilliance. It is honestly a piece of art.

Songs I've Been Loving:

Seasons of Love- Rent
Happy/Sad- The Addams Family
Kiss Me- Ed Sheeran
21 Guns- American Idiot (Original Broadway Cast)
When We Were Young- Adele
Safer- First Date
The Hanging Tree- Mockingjay
Homeless- Ed Sheeran

Interview with Rachel from Silver Mess!!

Monday, January 4, 2016

Hey everyone! Today, I'm here with Rachel, previously from Random Rants by Rcubed, who is launching her new blog, Silver Mess! I was super excited when she invited me to be a part of her blog tour, and today we're having a conversation about beauty, fashion, and more! Keep reading to learn about our favorite products, outfit go-to's, and our style inspiration!!

------------------

What would you say that your personal style is like?

RACHEL: My own personal style is edgy, comfy, and sporty. I don't play a lot of sports, but sports clothes are usually the most comfortable, so you'll usually catch me lounging around in gym shorts and T-shirts. But when I want to dress up a little, I generally wear a lot of black-and-white. I also have these gray pumps from Tilly's that I LOVE and make me feel more businesslike. What about you, Grace?

GRACE ANNE: When I'm not wearing yoga pants (which, let's face it, I am probably 80% of the time...), my style is very girly and feminine. I love to wear dresses/skirts with tights and booties. At the same time though, I'm majorly into black because it just looks so sophisticated and chic! I also love jewelry, and may or may not possibly be a jewelry hoarder…

RACHEL: I love wearing black and white and gray! At the same time, though, I like to experiment with different things. Do you ever wear something different or unconventional just because you want to? Like one time I was getting ready for Homecoming and I decided to randomly throw on a black leather motorcycle jacket and I happened to like it and I ended up wearing it to Homecoming! Do you ever do things like that?

GRACE ANNE: Oh my goodness, I love that idea! I saw a picture of your Homecoming outfit, and it was fabulous. Sometimes the best outfits come from totally spur-of-the-moment choices! I love to just pull a random piece of clothing out of my closet, and then base the entire outfit around it. It's a great way to force yourself to get creative! Getting to be creative with my outfits is one of the reasons that I love fashion so much! When I was younger, my outfits were so colorful and a bit bizarre, but it was so much fun, like a constant game of dress-up. Some of those photos are totally cringe-worthy, though! When did you first start to get into fashion?

RACHEL: Haha, I got into it literally last month! I started noticing how much better I felt when I was wearing something nice, and it just made me more productive and made me feel more professional.
That's not to say that I don't lounge around in comfy clothes--I literally do that all the time--but I learned the value of looking nice. When did you get into style and fashion?

GRACE ANNE: Haha, wow! Clothes are so much fun, and a special outfit can totally change your outlook. I've honestly been into style and fashion for as long as I can remember. I've always loved clothes, and when I was little my sister and I would make whole games revolving around putting together "the perfect outfit", haha! So, do you like to experiment with hair and makeup along with clothes, or do you typically just stick with clothing?

RACHEL: That's so cool! When I was younger, for whatever reason, I thought it would be better for me to be a "tomboy." That kind of ended when I realized I wasn't coordinated at all (lol). I usually stick to clothing, mostly because regular makeup doesn't really adhere well to my facial structure. I have monolid, which basically means I have no eyelid crease, so when I apply makeup, it barely ever shows :( I've gotten more into it, however--I recently found a couple of mascaras that I've been trying out, and so far they're actually doing something to my thin, un-voluminous, short eyelashes! As for hair...I stink at that kind of stuff, mostly because I'm lazy. I usually just put it up in a ponytail or messy bun xD. Do you experiment with hair and makeup along with clothes? If so, what products do you use, or what's your routine?

GRACE ANNE: Haha! I think a lot of kids feel that way--they seem to be one on end of the spectrum or the other. Either they're tomboys or girly, there isn't always much in-between. That stinks about the eyeshadow :/ But new mascara is always a great thing!! What kind of mascara do you like to use? Haha, ponytails and messy buns seem to be my go-to hairstyles for school days. They're so easy, and cute. I love experimenting with hair and makeup! It's so much fun, and I always feel about a million times more put together when I put some makeup on. I tend to use a lot of stuff from ELF and Covergirl, because their products are really affordable, as well as being great quality. As far as hair goes, I don't usually have time to do anything fancy, but when I do, I love going crazy doing different types of curls and braids. My sister has the longest hair ever, so I love to experiment on her! I think that sometimes, hair and makeup can be easier to do on other people. Have you found that to be true, or do you think that it's easier to do on yourself?

RACHEL: I totally agree! I like making other people pretty and experimenting with things that I think will make them look good, but it's so hard when it comes to trying to look decent myself!
I started using the Maybelline (I think it's Maybelline) Falsies for mascara, and I like it! What do you use?

GRACE ANNE: I’ve been trying out a bunch of different mascaras lately, but my favorite would have to be the Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal. It’s the best mascara that I’ve been able to find! I may have to try the Falsies though, that’s one that I haven’t used yet. Is Maybelline your favorite makeup brand?

RACHEL: I’m not quite well-versed enough in makeup to consider it my favorite brand, but really it’s just a mascara that someone recommended to me. I also am using a Stila eyeshadow palette that’s doing really well, considering my eye shape, and I also use the Urban Decay primer potion to make sure the eyeshadow stays on my eyes. What other makeup do you use?

GRACE ANNE: Oh, okay! I haven’t tried Stila yet, although I’ve heard that they have good makeup. I haven’t tried UD’s primer either, although I’ve heard from multiple people that it’s crazy good. Gosh, let’s see- I’m a bit of a makeup hoarder haha. I use ELF products for my eyebrows, face mist, and setting powder- their stuff is great quality for a really low price. I also use UD’s Naked 3 palette for my eyes, and I’ve been using Covergirl Tru Blend foundation, although I want to try a different one soon- it’s a little too dark for me. It’s kind of pathetic when I can’t even wear the ivory foundation, haha! Do you ever have trouble picking out color palettes/makeup shades to match your skin tone?

RACHEL: Wow, you seem so much more advanced in that area than I am! I don't use foundation, so I don't really worry about matching my skin tone. My grandma got me some BB cream a couple of Christmases ago, so I use that occasionally...but other than that, I don't use much skin product.

I should probably go before your readers get bored with my makeup struggles! This has been really fun--thanks so much for having me!

GRACE: I’m so glad that you could stop by! This has been fun. Everyone, go check out Rachel’s new blog over at Silver Mess!

Also, in celebration of her new blog, Rachel is hosting a giveaway! You can check it out over at her blog, or I have the Rafflecopter link right here for you to use:)

Weekly Wrap Up

Saturday, October 10, 2015

Whew, this has been a crazy week. It's kind of been a blur, to be honest. Between school stuff, theatre stuff, and everyday life, it's been pretty busy. As usual, I'm thrilled that it's Saturday! I have a few things that I have to get done this weekend, but it's not huge stuff, for which I'm very thankful.

Also, is it just me, or are stores selling holiday stuff earlier and earlier? Halloween has been in stores since August, and Hobby Lobby has had their Christmas stuff up since September! I'm sorry, that's absolute insanity. IT'S NOT TIME YET!!! That being said, I really want to start working on Christmas presents. I'm determined not to procrastinate this year!!

You know me though. I procrastinate basically everything in life. It's a problem.

Made Me Smile:

Bright, sunny days after dark, rainy ones.

Harry Potter t-shirts.

Insanely adorable Hallmark movies- oh my gosh go watch Wish List right. now. It is so adorable I can't handle it. I'm realizing that I sound like a paid advertiser for the Hallmark channel lately I swear I'm not...

My room is finally semi-clean. I'm so happy!

Cheap Harry Potter books! Oh my gosh they make me so excited.

Ugh:

Waking up at 8:30 for a 9:00 rehearsal. -_- Stupid alarm clock....

I cannot get this novel plot worked out and it is driving me insane.

Prepping for standardized testing. Anything involving math is just bad to begin with, let's be real here..

Loving:

NCIS. I'm on the first season, so NO SPOILERS!!!!!

Chocolate ice cream. Enough said.

Boy Meets World reruns.

These amazing chocolate chip-oatmeal-cake mix cookies. They are so fabulous oh my goodness.

^ Bindi Irwin's tribute to her father. I'm serious, if you haven't seen this yet, WATCH IT RIGHT NOW. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU'RE DOING IT CAN WAIT FIVE MINUTES JUST WATCH THIS DANCE.

Pinning:

I kind of had a ton of pins this week that I really liked, so this may be a bit longer than usual haha. Pinterest is my BFF, guys...

Isn't this jacket perfect??

I thought that this tutorial was so cool, I need to try it!

AND THIS IS SO PERFECT TOO LIKE LOOK AT IT!

 "Did I stutter" XD

I seriously want this necklace.

This outfit is adorable!!

I think my sister almost died when she saw this. I broke her.

I've realized that this post is crazy-long. Sorry about that.

Weekly Wrap-Up

Saturday, October 3, 2015

Gosh, this week has been busy! I can't quite say that I'm sorry it's over. Parts of it have been super stressful and tiring, so I'm ready for a fresh start. I'm so glad that it's finally the weekend! Having a chance to just relax is super nice.

I don't really have any plans this weekend, for which I'm very thankful! I'd like to work on some novel stuff, and I need to calm the tornado in my room. It's really terrible. WHY CAN I NEVER KEEP IT CLEAN? WHY?!

But I digress.

Maybe I'll go make some scones. Or watch NCIS. That sounds a lot nicer than cleaning.

Made Me Smile:

I had my auditions this week, and I'm in the ensemble of our musical! I'm really excited, it's going to be a ton of fun. : )

Long, wonderful talks with amazing people who I love to death.

More character work for my novel! Agh it's so much fun!

Having a quiz postponed. Gotta love it!

Ugh:

Headaches. They are literally the worst. Lack of sleep and dehydration do not make for a very good day, I can tell you that.

School. Just school in general. I am ahead on English this week, though, so that's good! I just feel like I'm behind on absolutely everything else.

It's getting colder. Noooooooo!!!

Loving:

Chocolate-peanut butter spread. I feel like I talk about this stuff a lot but I swear, it's the most amazing substance in the world.

Secret Letters by Leah Scheier. It is SUCH a good book!! My mom picked it up for me at the library this week, and I'm in love.

Scouring Pinterest for fun fall ideas.

Pinning:

I love this hairstyle so much! I feel like I would crash and burn if I tried it, but agh it's so cute!

This vintage 50's dress is absolutely stunning!

I love this! I actually tried recreating it, although it didn't turn out this well for sure!!

I WANT THIS OUTFIT SO BADLY OH MY GOSH

Oh my goodness, I'm laughing so hard. THG and Taylor- perfect!

Weekly Wrap-Up

Saturday, September 26, 2015

Hello, lovelies! How are you all? Personally, I just had a bit of a freak out moment because I realized that it's September 26th.

That's really not okay.

October is on Thursday.

Urg. Didn't I just write up my Happy September post a week ago? Okay, okay. I'm not going to go into my "blah blah blah time is going so fast blah blah" rant that I do like, constantly. I promise. Ugh who am I kidding I just did.

This past week has been kind of crazy. Between classes, and school, and appointments, things have been pretty busy. I'm glad that the weekend's finally here, I finally get a bit of a break! I'm planning on trying to get my life together a bit this weekend, do some rehearsing, cleaning, catching up on school, etc. I WILL FORCE MYSELF TO BE PRODUCTIVE. Let's be honest I'll probably just get distracted 10000 times.

Made Me Smile:

Spending an afternoon baking cookies, and then watching a Hallmark movie that night. Sometimes, you're so burnt out from school that it just needs to happen.

I finally picked my audition pieces! I have an audition for a musical on Monday....agh. I suppose I should file that part under 'Ugh'.. Auditions are scary, guys.

Earlier this week, it was "Pirate Day" at Krispy Kreme! Some of my older readers may remember my post on it last year, and I went again this year! The boxes were seriously adorable.

Ugh:

Gigantic history tests. I swear, I'm going to fail...

It's fall. It's o.f.f.i.c.i.a.l.l.y. fall. I will be positive about this!! I will!! I promise!! The fact that this is under Ugh shows just how positive I am.

Loving:

Chocolate peanut butter spread. It's seriously the most amazing stuff in the world.

Working on my novel. It's so much fun!! I'm doing a ton of character development right now, and I'm getting a bit obsessed with it. I'm dying to start actually writing!

Dancing With The Stars! As y'all can tell from my posts, I love that show so much. I'm so glad that it's back!

Pinning:

Oh my gosh, I can't stop laughing...

This is such a cute and comfy outfit!!

I love this hairstyle so much! I wish that my hair was thicker so that I could pull this off. I tried it the other day, and it didn't look too bad. I'll just have to practice!

I love this collage so much..

^So true. Lately I've been super obsessed with hand-lettering, and Pinterest has some fabulous tutorials!
